A quick thought..

Why do all of Marianne's stories end so tragicly? Sometimes she brings me down. I hope the ending of this book isnt tragic as well.

Has anyone finished yet?

Hey all,
I finished the book during my vacay. I think that it was on the 29th----pretty good, eh?

So, now how do we discuss it? Do we each write a post about it or just comments?

I'm very close to being done. I like the tragic stories. They are sad, but they all seem to illustrate a sort of romantic heroism. I think that all of the characters more or less chose their fate, as opposed to an easier path they could have followed. They all chose to follow their hearts, even against what might have been better for them. All life ends in tragedy. Better a tragic romance than tragic solitude. In the words of Bret Easton Ellis, "The seeds of love have taken hold, and if we won't burn together, I'll burn alone."

I agree with Brandon. The stories were probably my favorite thing about the book, and actually what kept me going in reading it. I thought they were told better than any of the other parts, the first person portions seemed to be lacking something... for me at least.
